ABOUT ME

I am an passionate English teacher with full VIT registration and nearly twenty years of Secondary English classroom experience. My career focus has been VCE English and improving student literacy across all year levels. I have also been a VCAA English exam assessor.

I bring creativity, compassion and awareness to teaching and learning spaces and relationships.

Building student confidence in their own literacy skills and modelling how we apply those skills to a range of English Curriculum tasks is my core focus.

    Together we will build your confidence through brainstorming, discussion, reading and modelled writing samples. I can help you to value your own connections with texts and develop a self-assured tone when discussing and writing about texts.

THE LESSONS

I offer one-to-one weekly online tutoring sessions of one hour.

I arrange a free introductory session for new enquiries where parents, student and myself can meet, discuss expectations, schedules and get to know each other a little. This usually takes about 15-20 mins.

Lessons are individualised and personalised, and will include;
- brainstorming ideas together
- exploring big ideas and themes explored in texts more deeply
- making new connections within texts
- planning responses to essay topics/assessment tasks/writing or speaking tasks
- discussing creative responses and different purposes, audiences and forms
- reading and annotating texts together
- practicing writing structures together

I can follow student class work and assessments, interpreting and following classroom teachers’ expectations and instructions.
Alternatively, I can provide a complete course outline using engaging texts and focusing on core skills that we work on independently from school.
